1.4.0 Release Notes

Release notes for Aparavi Platform version 1.4.0.

Release Date: April 26, 2021

New in this release

Search and report on classification hits

Classification officers can now dig deeper into classified files by searching for and reporting on not only the name of the policy and rule triggered by a file, but also each content “hit” within the file that triggered the classification policy.

Search and report on duplicate files

Data stewards can now search for and report on duplicate files, allowing organizations to view redundant data that is being stored across their systems. Identifying duplicate files is a critical first step in managing ROT (Redundant/Obsolete/Trivial) data and offers benefits including consolidating storage, reducing risk, and imposing defensible disposition of data.

Custom tagging

Aparavi administrators can now define custom tags which can be applied to files by users and subsequently used to build queries for search and reporting. Tagging files can be used to assist with a variety of business processes, such as ROT data remediation, custom organization of files and legal & compliance file cleanup efforts.

Quick scans

Overall response time to get initial scan results in the UI has been improved. Results are now batched and uploaded to the UI as the scan tasks complete, and additional performance optimizations were introduced to streamline statistics gathering.

Additionally, when Indexing is disabled, the results of your file system scans are now returned on the Dashboard much faster than before. This can be useful in cases where you want to look for ROT data, or when you want to run a preliminary scan to get an idea of what your organization has out there. The following Dashboard widgets, which do not rely on content search data, will display their results quickly:

  • Data by Location Type
  • Data Owners
  • Events
  • Files by Creation Date
  • Files by Last Accessed Date
  • Files by Modification Date
  • File Types by Extension
  • Find
  • Permissions
  • System Information
  • Task Status

To get the vastly improved file system only scan results, disable Indexing by navigating to Policies->Settings and clicking the Enable Indexing toggle to the Disable setting.

After working from the Files tab, users build and refine queries to generate their desired search results. Now users can save that hard-earned query directly into a report for future re-use directly from the Files tab by clicking the Save as Report button.

Export and import reports

Administrators can now export any or all of their reports to a file on their local system in order to archive and/or deploy to multiple customer environments. This ability saves time by eliminating the need to recreate reports for their clients and outside organizations. Also, the ability to import reports is a feature that allows for saving time by quickly and efficiently adding query parameters.

The query builder and available field selector are now common between the Files (Search) and Reports tabs.

Linux native installs

The Aparavi packages for Collectors, Aggregators and Aggregator-Collectors now use native .rpm and .deb packaging and install Aparavi application components in standard Linux locations. Aparavi application services are managed with native Linux commands such as systemctl and service.
